An Equalizer works by dividing human hearing (20Hz to 20,000Hz) into separate, adjustable sliders:
- The Lows (20Hz - 250Hz) This is where the Bass lives. Kick drums, bass guitars, and the deep rumble of a movie explosion. Boosting this makes music sound huge and energetic. Cutting this removes the annoying 'rumble' from an air conditioner in a podcast recording.

Yes. Digital audio has a hard ceiling called '0dB'. If you push the bass slider to the absolute maximum, the sound waves will smash into that ceiling, resulting in a horrible crunching sound called 'Clipping'. Always boost gently.
What is Subtractive EQ?
Amateurs boost sliders to make things sound better. Professionals use 'Subtractive EQ'—they find the bad frequencies (like a nasal tone or background hum) and pull those sliders DOWN. It is always better to remove bad sound than to artificially boost good sound.
Can I remove background noise completely?
An EQ can help reduce a low hum (by cutting the bass) or a high hiss (by cutting the treble), but it cannot magically erase a dog barking or a siren. For complex noise removal, you need dedicated AI noise-cancellation software.
