Why You Must Remove EXIF Data Before Sharing Photos
Every time you take a photo with a modern smartphone or digital camera, the device invisibly embeds a wealth of metadata into the image file. This data, known as EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data, is incredibly useful for organizing photos, but it is a massive privacy risk if shared publicly.
What hidden data is in your photos?
- Exact GPS Coordinates: The exact latitude and longitude of where you were standing when you took the photo. (Often down to a few meters of accuracy).
- Date and Time: The precise second the image was captured.
- Device Information: Your exact phone model and operating system version.
How our EXIF Remover protects you
Our tool uses a technique called Canvas rasterization. When you upload a photo, your browser essentially "repaints" the visible pixels onto a blank canvas and exports a brand new image file. This completely strips away the original EXIF header while maintaining the visual quality of the photo.
Most importantly: Unlike other EXIF removers that require you to upload your photos to a server, our tool runs 100% locally in your web browser. Your private photos never leave your device.
