How to Strip EXIF Data from Images to Protect Your Privacy

By OmniToolbox Team

Every time you snap a photo with your smartphone, hidden metadata is embedded directly into the image file. This data, known as EXIF, can include the camera model, exposure settings, and most importantly, the exact GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken.

The Privacy Risk

If you upload an original photo to a public forum or social media site that doesn’t automatically strip EXIF data, anyone can download the image, extract the metadata, and pinpoint your home or current location.

How to Remove It

While there are command-line tools like exiftool, they aren’t always convenient. You can also use built-in OS features, but they can be cumbersome for bulk operations.

The most convenient and secure method is using a local browser tool. Our EXIF Privacy Scrubber removes all metadata from your images directly in your browser without uploading your personal photos to a server.
